At the time 808s & Heartbreak was released, Kanye had previously won 10 Grammy awards; but in 2009 his highly introspective fourth studio album didn’t prove to be Grammy worthy. The only nomination he nabbed that year was “Amazing” for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Outside of the Grammys, 808s & Heartbreak was widely lauded, winning Outstanding Album at NAACP Image Awards, Best Album Urban International Album at the 2009 Swiss Music Awards, and Album of the Year at the 2009 Soul Train Awards. The videos for  “Paranoid” and “Love Lockdown” were also nominated for four VMAs in 2009. At the time, Rolling Stone ranked 808s & Heartbreak at 63 on its 100 Best Album of the Decade list and in 2014, the magazine listed the album among the 40 most groundbreaking albums of all time.
